General plots / Circle packing

How to read it

Circle packing

Each circle is a category whose area is proportional to its value (or record count); circles of finer categories are nested inside their parent.

Top-level circles have distinct colours and nested circles use lighter tints; names are printed where they fit, and hovering shows the full path and value.

Circle packing gives an intuitive view of relative sizes within each parent; for exact comparisons use the downloadable node table (with percentages of the total and of the parent).

Level order follows the column order of your table (left-most column = broadest level); with many categories, set a threshold to merge small ones into “Other”.

Method

Circle area ∝ node value; circles within a parent are packed greedily (largest first, each placed tangent to those already placed without overlap).

Data size

Up to 8 levels and 5,000 leaf categories.
