How to read it

Heatmap with stacked-bar panel

The heatmap and the 100% stacked bars on the right are aligned row by row: each row is a sample or category, the heatmap shows a set of measures and the bar shows the share of each part in that row.

The two tables are paired by row name (first column); rows missing from the composition table get an empty bar and the page reports how many. Composition can be counts or proportions; each row is rescaled to 100%.

By default the heatmap uses a diverging palette centred on 0 (suited to scores or log fold changes); row z-scores or a sequential palette are also available.

Typical uses: taxonomic composition of samples beside an environmental-factor heatmap, or cluster marker scores beside a QC or sample-origin composition. Hover over a segment to see its count and percentage.

Method

Stacked bars show each part divided by the row total × 100%; z-scores use the sample standard deviation (n − 1); clustering uses Euclidean distance with average linkage; with raw diverging colours the palette ends at the 95th percentile of |value| and larger values take the end colour.

Data size

Up to 500 rows are drawn.
