How to read it

Packed bubble chart

Each bubble is an item whose area (not radius) is proportional to its value; the largest bubbles sit in the middle. Names are printed where they fit and hovering shows the value.

A packed bubble chart has no axes; it shows which items are large or small and the overall make-up. For exact comparisons use a bar chart or the downloadable table (with percentages).

Area can only represent positive numbers: choose the “−log10” transform for P values, or “Absolute value” for fold changes with a group column for the direction.

With a group column bubbles are coloured by group; click a legend entry to hide a group.

Method

Bubble area ∝ value (radius ∝ √value); bubbles are packed greedily from largest to smallest without overlap.

Data size

Up to 500 bubbles drawn.
