How to read it

Stream graph

A streamgraph stacks each category’s values along a gradient (time, position…) around a centred baseline, forming continuous streams: a band’s thickness is that category’s value at that position and the overall width is the total.

Bands are ordered by total; with many categories only the top 10 are shown and the rest merged into “Other”. The minimised-wiggle baseline reduces the overall undulation, making single categories easier to follow.

Curves are smoothed for reading trends; hover or download the plotted data for exact values. The vertical axis has no absolute zero: read thickness, not height.

Tick “convert to shares” to remove changes in the total and see composition along the gradient only.

Method

Centred baseline g₀ = −total/2; minimised-wiggle baseline after Byron & Wattenberg (2008) IEEE TVCG 14:1245–1252.

Data size

Up to 30 categories displayed.
