How to read it

Sunburst (hierarchical pie)

Each ring from the centre outwards is one level; a sector’s angle is proportional to its value (or record count), and outer sectors sit inside the angle of their parent.

Click a sector to drill down into it; click the centre to go back up.

Level order follows the column order of your table (left-most column = inner ring), so arrange the columns from broad to fine categories first.

With many categories, set a threshold to merge small categories (as a share of their parent) into “Other”. The node table gives each node’s value and its percentage of the total and of its parent.

Method

Sector angle = node value / root total × 360°; a node’s value is the sum (or count) of all records beneath it.

Data size

Up to 8 levels and 5,000 leaf categories.
