Sequence utilities / Tree viewer (Newick)
Your data stays in your browser: files are read and processed on your device, never uploaded to any server, and cleared when you close the page. Free, no sign-in.
Paste a tree in Newick format (e.g. a .nwk or .tree file from tree-building software) to draw it as a rectangular or circular tree; optionally upload a two-column table (leaf name, group) to colour the leaves.
When drawn to branch length, horizontal (or radial) distance represents evolutionary distance and the scale bar shows one unit; untick it to show the topology only.
Numbers on internal nodes are usually bootstrap or posterior support values: higher means a better-supported branch.
“Root on outgroup” re-roots the tree on the chosen leaf; “Branch order” only changes the vertical order, not the topology. The Newick output reflects the current rooting and order.
Newick format (Felsenstein et al., PHYLIP documentation, 1986); branch ordering is “ladderising”.
Up to about 2,000 leaves is recommended; use the circular layout for larger trees.
Send us your data and research question and you will receive a written plan within 1 working day: analysis steps, parameter rationale, deliverables and timeline. Quoted per project.
