Font size grows with weight (the square root of the weight’s position between the smallest and largest weight); terms are placed along a spiral from the centre without overlap, and position itself carries no meaning.
Without a weight column, each term is weighted by how often it occurs. With weights, use “Absolute value” for fold changes or “−log10” for P values, then colour by sign or by group.
A word cloud gives an overall impression (for example which genes or pathways stand out) but is not meant for precise comparison; use the downloadable table for exact values.
With many terms all sizes are first scaled down; small terms that still do not fit are left out, so reduce the number of terms or the smallest font size.
Font size = smallest + (largest − smallest) × √((w − w_min)/(w_max − w_min)); placement follows an Archimedean spiral search (a fixed seed decides vertical terms, so layouts are reproducible).
Up to 400 terms drawn.
