For each numeric column (and each group if a group column is chosen) the table gives the count of values and missing cells, mean, standard deviation (n − 1), standard error, min/max, quartiles (type 7, the default in R and Excel), IQR, coefficient of variation, MAD, skewness, excess kurtosis and the 95% confidence interval of the mean.
Means and SDs are sensitive to extreme values; for skewed data (absolute skewness above about 1) the median and IQR are better summaries.
The coefficient of variation = SD ÷ mean, expressed as a percentage, and is meaningful only for positive, ratio-scale data; the 95% confidence interval uses the t distribution.
In the box plot the box spans Q1–Q3, the line is the median and whiskers reach the furthest points within 1.5 × IQR; switch to a violin plot to see the shape of the distribution.
Quantiles: Hyndman & Fan 1996 type 7; skewness and kurtosis are the bias-adjusted sample values (G1, G2; Joanes & Gill 1998), as in pandas skew / kurt.
